For use in a chuck or similar, a scroll is usually hardened and ground. Grinding down into a "face" thread or continuous narrow groove has got to be an equally interesting proposition. I wonder if the hardened scrolls were then setup on the same type of milling machine/rotary table, only with a high speed grinding spindle mounted on it.
