This study focusses on the Lieres coal mine, located in the Asturian CCB (Fig. 4). Mountain mining was developed in the area from the 18th century, but in 1916 started the underground mining, which lasted up to 2001. The mine has 2 connected vertical shafts, separated a distance of 50 m, reaching a total depth of 780 m, with 16 levels.
